Types of Coverage Offered by Road Haugs

At Road Haugs, we want you to have peace of mind during your move, which is why we offer two coverage plans. The types of coverage we offer are:

Basic Valuation

Basic Valuation is the default coverage provided at no additional cost with every move.

Coverage Details:

  • Covers your items at 60 cents per pound, per article
  • Does not account for the actual market value of the item

Example Scenarios: What’s Covered & What’s Not

  • Covered: If a 100-pound dresser is damaged, you would receive $60 (100 lbs x $0.60).
  • Not covered: A 40-pound flat-screen TV worth $500 would be reimbursed only $24, making it inadequate for high-value items.
  • Example: A 50-pound dining table would be covered for only $30, regardless of its actual worth

Limitations of Basic Valuation:

  • Compensation may not reflect the actual replacement cost
  • Minimal coverage for high-value items
  • Not a full insurance policy but a basic liability protection

Full Value Protection

For clients who want more comprehensive coverage, our Full Value Protection provides significantly better protection for your belongings.

How Full Value Protection Works:

  • Covers the market value of your damaged or lost items
  • If an item is damaged, Road Haugs will repair, replace, or compensate based on its market value
  • The cost is based on the weight of the total shipment

Calculating the Cost of Full Value Protection:

  • The fee for Full Value Protection is determined using state guidelines set by the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC)
  • For the most current rates, refer to the official NCUC website: NCUC.gov

Benefits of Full Value Protection:

  • Financial protection in case of damage or loss
  • Higher reimbursement amounts than Basic Valuation
  • Better suited for valuable and fragile items like electronics, furniture, and artwork

Key Differences Between Basic Valuation & Full Value Protection

The primary difference between these coverage options is the amount of coverage they provide and their costs:

  • Coverage amount: Basic Valuation covers 60 cents per pound, per item, while Full Value Protection covers the full market value.
  • Cost: Basic Valuation is free and included with your move, while Full Value Protection is a fee based on your total shipment weight.

Basic Valuation, which comes standard with your move, ensures you’ll receive some compensation if your items are damaged during your move. Full Value Protection is the best option if you want to ensure your expensive or important belongings are covered at full market value. This provides the ultimate peace of mind during your move.
