You never realize how much stuff you accumulate until it’s time to move!
I mean seriously, who needs four junk drawers! But it happens. We always highly recommend that you declutter before the big day! It can often seem overwhelming, but it can be done. You just need to take one step at a time. Start in one room and finish that room before you move on. Make yourself three piles. A pile to keep, a pile to trash, and a pile to donate. Getting rid of your beloved items is hard. That shirt that you haven’t worn since college has sentimental value…or does it? Those jeans you hope to fit back into one day- are bell bottoms even still in style? A great tip someone once shared with me is to hang up all your clothes with the hanger backward. If after one year, the hangers are still backward, that means you haven’t worn that article of clothing. I mean if you passed over it for a whole year, do you really need it? Donate it! Personally, I feel like I never have anything to wear, but I have a closet full of clothes. If you aren’t wearing it, why keep it! Next tackle those junk drawers. A great tip is to get ziplock baggies and put similar items together and label them! You can have a baggie of spare keys, screws, or all of your old Fit Bit bands. If something looks important but you don’t know what it is, that is in a bag too. If after you move into your new house, you still don’t know what it is, get rid of it. It’s so frustrating to spend money and time moving items you don’t want or need. Organizing starts with one closet and one drawer at a time. But before you know it, you’ve cleaned up all of your clutter!
